Nioxin’s 3-Step System
Step 1: Cleanse
- One of the reasons for hair loss and thinning hair is a buildup of environmental toxins and Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) on the scalp. This can include styling product buildup, smog, medication side-effects, and workplace residues to name just a few. Clogged follicle sites—which is where hair grows from—means there are fewer strands of hair on the head. The scalp then becomes more visible because there is less hair covering it.
- Nioxin Cleanser cleans the scalp over time, removing impurities that clog follicle sites. The Cleanser contains vitamins, proteins and amino acids that help create the best growing environment for hair.
Step 2: Moisturize
- Scalp Therapy is sometimes called “conditioner” by clients and salon stylists. It is a correct assumption in that Scalp Therapy moisturizes existing hair, but also moisturizes the scalp skin.
- Enzymatic complexes and essential oils support the Cleanser by reestablishing lost moisture necessary for the scalp skin.
Step 3: Nourish
- This step is often the most overlooked and underutilized step in Nioxin’s 3-Step System. Scalp Treatment is what Nioxin describes as the “activator” for the entire System by delivering essential botanicals and nutrients to the scalp skin.
- By restoring health to the skin, and fighting more environmental buildup on the scalp, Scalp Treatment is what drives results. Clients who only use the Cleanser and Therapy will not see the same results a client using all three steps will see. In fact, if a client is not using all three steps, Nioxin does not guarantee results at all.
Nioxin is available in eight different systems. It is important that clients choose the system best suited to their current hair type, whether they have chemical services performed on their hair, and how much thinning has taken place.
Nioxin recommends using its Thinning Hair System for several months before deciding if it is working or not. Typical results can take anywhere from 6 months to one year to be noticeable.
